The basics: Tell us about yourself and your content!

My name is Jared Martin and I’m a former division one college tennis player who picked up golf after college. I’m currently 7-8 HCP and I travel a lot for work. This has allowed me to play more than half of the PGA tour schedule. I put out daily content on IG, TikTok, and YT, but my main content is grading golf courses to help people plan their next golf trip.

What are your goals for the account? Long term? Short term?

Short term, I’m continuing to play different golf courses in order to give people a lot of footage from different places as well as to give grades on different courses. I’m looking to continue to grow my pages until I’m able to do this full-time. Long-term, I just went live with my apparel website, www.wedgegang.com this week. My goal is to grow the channel, sell merch, and then use some capital to get more underserved kids into Golf and Tennis. I’ve started the WEDGE Gang Foundation. WEDGE standing for (WE Do Good Everywhere). I want to give people opportunities and to give back to the community.

How do you define success?

Success is making the lives of the people around you and your community better. I’ve been very blessed in my life to be able to have the opportunities that I have. I don’t take that for granted. I have a lot of things I want to do to help the community, but that takes resources. I want my videos to be entertaining, but I also want to use that entertainment to help further the lives of the underserved community around me.

What advice would you give a content creator just starting out?

Be consistent. I started this channel 8 months ago and the main thing that I realized is that the videos you think will do great, oftentimes don’t. And the videos that may be a throwaway, might be your most popular videos. Learn what your audience wants to see and cultivate your videos that way. Also, don’t stay online. Post your videos and leave them. It is not your job to get people to watch your videos. If you start monitoring who and how many views and likes you’re going to get, you will drive yourself crazy. Post and then get back to life.

Go-to Waffle House order after an early tee time?

All-Star breakfast, with Hash browns and grits with cheese, scrambled eggs with cheese and all bacon. GOATED lol

What’s the most ‘Atlanta’ thing that’s ever happened to you on a golf course?

I was playing Brookfield country club and the guy behind me kept telling us we needed to speed up, but there were five groups in front of us and we were waiting on every shot… He said something two separate times and I told my brother I was going to give him one more time before I checked him. He said one more comment about us needing to speed up and I told him, I’ve been watching you play behind me and you’ve hit 5 balls into other people’s yards. If you want to join us and bet on this round, be my guest. But if not, wait like we are waiting and be quiet. He lost his attitude very quickly lol.

What course around Atlanta do you think deserves more love — and what makes it special?

Local and public course, I would say Crystal Lake. It’s usually reasonably priced and in good condition. Honorable mention is Cedar Lake in Loganville. They claim to be the best value in the metro ATL area and I would agree. I played on Saturday before masters week at 8:48 for $48 and the course was in great shape.

Other than yourself… who are your top 3 favorite golf content creators currently?

Whoop’em Wednesday
