Southland Golf & Country Club

Public

$40-$60 ($32 on a Hot Deal)

30 mins from downtown

This review is sponsored by Moxie Burger! Moxie is a local ATL chain that was originally started in Marietta and has grown to 4 other locations. It's the perfect spot for a post-round burger and beer.

Southland Golf and Country Club is priced as if it's a mid-tier public course, but provides a low-tier experience. From the facilities to the course conditions, Southland has a lot of work to do if they want to be included in local golfer's regular rotation.

The layout provides a decent challenge with some narrow fairways, forced carries and blind shots. I would definitely recommend using a golf app with GPS (the carts don't have them). My app of choice is The Grint by the way.

The tee boxes left a lot to be desired... Some were essentially mud patches. A couple were in decent shape to be fair, but the majority were pretty bad.

Fairways were fine overall. A bit overgrown, but my guess is that it was more to do with the recent rain and being unable to mow them down. Not bad, not great. Unfortunately, if you missed the fairway and found yourself in a bunker you might as well give yourself a free drop. They were definitely not maintained in any meaningful way.

The greens were furry/slow, but were healthy and rolled evenly. Considering the recent rain they held up quite well. The greens are definitely the high point for the course. If they were cut down a touch and rolled, they'd be really good.

The facilities are shocking. The clubhouse is bizarre... like an abandoned motel lobby.

No food service, no beverage cart, no water stations, dirty ball washers, and the cart path was in poor shape. There's technically a practice range, but not worth the price of the range balls if you're looking for a quality warm up. Carts are gas-powered and can sometimes struggle on slopes, plus at times there's a shortage of carts. Lastly, there's no designated turn after 9, so just be aware.

$60 for a weekend round can get you above average golf around Atlanta, but not here. If you can lock-in a $35 hot deal then it's worth checking out if you're nearby and looking for a laid back/casual round with some friends. But if you're looking for half-serious round of golf, this isn't for you.

The course has a lot of potential and 17 and 18 are great finishing holes, but I can't recommend Southland Golf and Country Club in its current state, especially at the $60 weekend rate.
