I'll spare you the history of Bobby Jones Golf Course (BJGC), but it's worth researching how they turned an 18 hole course into a reversible 9-hole. For many BJGC is 'ole faithful as it remarkably stays in good condition despite the amount of play. There are some cons, but I almost always end up recommending it to visitors.
The layout of BJGC (Magnolia) makes it probably the closest to links golf you're going to find in ATL. 5 of 9 tee shots provide a massive fairway. With that said, miss in the wrong place on 7 or 5 and you can quickly find a double on the score card. The par 3s on the Magnolia side are fine, but I think the Azalea par 3s are a bit better.
Tee boxes are always solid. Mainly because there are 7 different ones to choose from, so it dives up the beating. I will say that I noticed a couple Azalea tee boxes that didnt look great... so just something to be aware of.
Fairways were in very good condition, and the greens can almost always be counted on to roll true at an above average speed. Just be mindful of which way the grain is running!
The facilities are some of the best in Atlanta public golf. A huge range that features TopTracer technology via the phone app (I do wish they opened the grass more often). Putting green, chipping/pitching/bunker practice area. They have a putting course with crazy undulation that is really fun. The restaurant is very good as well. Perfect for post-round beer and food. Water stations scattered and usually there's a cart person. Really everything you could ask for. Even a pitch and putt course on the backside.
Despite the glowing review, it's not a great value for the price. You're paying an 18-hole price for a 9-hole course. If you want to warm up you're looking at nearly $20 for a range bucket. So on the weekend you're paying $80 for a 9-hole round.
With that said, I still recommend Bobby Jones. If you can stomach the price, you're going to have a fun round with above average conditions and great views of the city. It's a fantastic course to walk as well.
Warm up elsewhere, snag the $40 twilight rate, and you'll be very happy with the experience.
