An Atlanta Golf Course Review
Off-season review on 03/21/2026
Planterra Club
Private
Guest Rates: $180-$190 ($25 cheaper to walk)
45 minutes Southwest of Atlanta
Planterra is widely considered the crown jewel of the "The Clubs of Peachtree and Newnan" - which are all part of the Invited Club network of private courses. I now understand why. That said... it's a steep guest fee comparable to the likes of Dunwoody CC, so expectations were very very high.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse from the outside is fairly unassuming. Inside, it was pretty standard overall. Smaller pro-shop, and a nice eating area with a large bar (featuring transfusion slushies). The locker room was relatively small. Not really a spot to hang out. The star of the show was the outside patio. Beautiful view, massive TV, and a great vibe all around. That was definitely THE spot for the post round hangs.
Practice Facilities
Where the clubhouse lacked an elevated feel, the practice facilities made up for it. First class all around. Huge putting green and TWO chipping greens both w/ a practice bunker. Plenty of room to work on a variety of pitch shots too. The range was fantastic - pre-made bag of balls alongside tees, divot fixers, and bottles of water. Loved that there were golf alignment sticks at each station on the range. Always a nice touch. Event better... there was a fairway bunker to the side of the range to practice out of! Now that's something you don't see every day!
The Course
Although it opened in 1994, the lake wasn't filled until 2013! My understanding is that it changed everything! I can't compare the two, and it feels almost impossible to imagine the course without the lake. Starting on hole 7, 9 holes feature the lake and many others it serves as the backdrop.
I truly loved the layout. 12 teebox options from 7000 to 4100 yards. Felt like a course I'd be excited to play every weekend. Some of the reveals actually take your breath away. The tee box on 13 and the approach on 15 are two that will stay in my mind for awhile. But even the holes inland were beautiful. The downhill par 5 hole 2 had Augusta vibes.
The par 3s were very good - here's how it looked from the 6300yd tees
Hole 3: flat, bunkers left, 130ish
Hole 8: Full carry over water, bunker long, 145ish
Hole 14: Forced carry, uphill, bunkers short and long, 135ish
Hole 17: Signature par 3, lake serving as the back drop, water short right, and long, 160ish, but playing way longer due to the wind
Hole 3 was the only par 3 that was a bit bland. I also didn't love some of the similar yardages, although they all offered something unique in how they challenged you.
I thought the par 5s were one of the best collections I've played. I already mentioned hole 2, but the tee box on the par 5, hole 5 is your first glimpse at the lake. It's a bit of a zig zag layout, but a good tee shot gives you a chance to go for it in 2 - but there's some risk. Tall grass and 2 pine trees guard the green well. Many balls end up in that tall stuff. Hole 10 is a forced carry over the water where you get to decide how much to take off. The water continues down the right so if you flare out your approach, you'll be in trouble. 16 is essentially 18 at Sawgrass, but flipped. So fun.

I didn't love the finisher though. Really tough. Handicap 2 on the scorecard. Forced carry, and then you're usually left with a long iron into a slender green with water everywhere. I'm sure many great rounds have been ruined by 18.
Conditions
The conditions were so good. Nothing I could complain about. Especially for off-season golf.
Tee boxes were cut nice and short, but nothing overtly unique about them. I do think the variety of tees really help the upkeep.
Fairways were nice and lush. Bunkers were vibrant white and really popped. The actual style of the bunkering was fairly basic.
Greens were quick, but comfortable and very healthy. Not crazy undulations, but enough to keep putts interesting. I tend to like more rough around greens, but low cut fairway also presents it's own kind of challenge.
Membership & Value
My understanding is that the membership initiation is $20,000, but will be increasing to $30k and that includes access to the other Invited Clubs in Peachtree City: Braelinn, Whitewater Creek, Flat Creek, White Oak and Canongate. However, Planterra is not included in the other courses' fee structure.
At $190 after tax for a weekend tee time with cart, they're priced like a tier 1 club in the metro-area. However, I think most would agree that Planterra is more on the top end of the Tier 2 clubs.
That said, considering the practice facilities and the layout, I think at $190 you're JUST flush with the overall value: 5/10. But if you can walk you'll save $25 and at that rate I think you're slightly above on the value - 6/10. Maybe even a 6.5 at $155 for a weekday walk.
Btw - a very walkable course, except for the hike up to 13, but the view makes it worth it. So choose to walk, save $25 for the round and have a day.
It's a pretty penny, but I still recommend playing Planterra Club if given the opportunity!
