Alfred "Tup" Holmes Golf Course

Public

$20-$35

10 mins from downtown

This review is sponsored by BlackBalled Golf Apparel. Probably, the fastest growing golf apparel brand out of ATL and for good reason. Very fashion-forward and they have some traditional looks as well. Highly recommend.

"Tups" is another city owned course, which means expectations should be tempered. Even so, there are plenty of bright spots. No 9 is arguably the most famous (or infamous) par 3 in all of ATL Public Golf and thanks to the price point, it affords many people the opportunity to play a full par 72 course who might not otherwise be able to.

The overall layout is fairly memorable! Drivable par 4, decent amount of risk reward on a couple of the par 5s, the par 3s are fun (#14 is very underrated), and a good mix in the par 4s - uphill, downhill, dogleg left and right, etc. Tipping out at only 6100 yards, it's very gettable.

Course conditions are a mixed bag. You can usually find grass to tee off of, but the fact I said "usually" is telling. Most of the fairways are in pretty good shape, although there are plenty of holes where you can find yourself on GA clay. The bunkers aren't unplayable, but that's the best compliment I can give them.

Greens are lightning, but not because they are in amazing condition... there's just not enough grass to create friction on the ball. With that said, the greens that get a lot of sun are much better, but the shaded greens are pretty bad.

As with most city run courses, the amenities are very poor. Not much to the clubhouse, minimal food/drink, no range, and currently there's not even a putting green because they are re-doing it. Pretty much all you're getting is a small chipping area. Pro-tip: warm up at John A. White's range down the street

That said, I paid $25 for 72 holes on a Friday. I usually had grass to tee off of, grass to putt on, and a pretty fun layout. Can I ask much more for $25?

I don't think so, which is why I recommend Tups. If you're paying $25 and expecting $60 conditions, that's a you problem.
