Chastain is a city run course in the middle of Buckhead and it feels like it. The course is a bit cramped, always busy, and has potential to be much better than it is - much like Buckhead. It’s not an easy course and many holes feel borderline unfair. With that said, conditions were solid compared to some of the other city courses + the elevation changes provide some good views.

The tee boxes were a bit overgrown, but I usually wasn’t hitting off of sand at least. Fairways were fine. The greens were frustrating - The grass is healthy, but hard to trust the roll. Lots of bumps and wobbles. If the greens were rolled regularly it would make a huge difference. Bunkers were just bad.

The layout has potential… many holes have you hitting from an elevated tee box which is fun. But, other holes have bizarre routings that make it hard to know where to go and/or unfair situations even after great shots. 2 is the most obvious example, but even 15 where a great tee-shot will usually leave you with tree trouble or 10 where I don't think it's possible to stay in the fairway. They have also moved 17s tee box back to a location where trees are literally encroaching into the tee box.

Pace of play was actually decent for a Friday… we didn’t get backed up until 16. However, Chastain is a bit infamous for 5 hr+ rounds on the weekend.

Pro shop has the essentials, but you won’t find much food or alcohol on site. Carts are fine - no GPS. They did have cold water in coolers throughout which was very appreciated. I also thought their warm up bays were really cool.

Chastain’s issue is that despite its faults, it's busy, so the city has little motivation to make major upgrades. It's unfortunate bc the course could be a gem.

After taxes, you’re paying just shy of $50, $35 to walk. With ForePass you’re paying $13.50 after 2pm, or walk free after 6pm. So if you’re in the area + have the ForePass it’s a really good value. But if you're from OTP and paying full price, I can't recommend it.
