Country Club of Gwinnett
Semi-private
Rates: $45 - $90
40 minutes east of Atlanta
It's been awhile since a course surprised me as much as Country Club of Gwinnett (CCG) did.
For many years CCG was in a bit of disarray, but when new ownership took over in 2024, they had big plans to bring it back. Now with over $6.5 million dollars invested, 300 trees removed, new cart path, full bunker renovation, and more renovations coming, they are very close to bringing those big plans into reality.
Clubhouse
Clubhouse was pretty standard overall, but with a great view from the patio. Perfect spot for a post round brew. Also the food was very good - our entire crew said as much. I just got a hotdog, but it was an excellent dog (8.5/10)

Pro-shop had the essentials and even a few Atlanta brands (love to see it).
Practice Facilities
Practice facilities were OKAY. There is a grass/mat range, but it was pretty worn in overall. Also the direction the range runs is kind of bizarre. You really have to aim to the right to avoid hitting a ball into hole 18's fairway.
Technically there's a chipping green + practice bunker, but only on technicality. According to a member, no one really uses it because it's in poor shape.
The practice green was also just okay. Pretty small, but was conveniently placed near the first tee, which is a plus.
The good news is that a full practice area renovation is in the works and will include a covered range with Trackman. That will be a MASSIVE upgrade.
Range balls are $14 - just one size (pro tip: split with a friend)
The Golf Course
The course is truly a tale of two 9s in every way.
The front 9 is pretty traditional Atlanta golf. Some elevation changes, dog legs, tree lined fairways, and a little bit of quirk.
Some of the standout holes on the front:
Hole 4 - short par 4, probably drivable on a dry day. Love a drivable par 4.
Hole 6 - really cool par 3 with rock formations surrounding the green
Hole 8 - a BRUTE of a par 4, but wide open and downhill.
The back 9 is where the character of the course really comes to life. 10 sets the stage with a big forced carry of the water. It's like the course is bluntly introducing you to the water hazard that will be a regular feature for the next 9 holes. In fact 6/9 holes on the back have the water in play.
I'm going to rave about this back 9 for a second, because I felt like every hole challenged me in a totally unique way.
10 - forced carry over water to elevated green
11 - long downhill par 3 (Hit 5i)
12 - got to hit a number off the tee to avoid going long (wood/iron)
13 - par 5 that gently bends around the corner. Blind second shot if going for it
14 - Drivable par 4, but a lot of risk. Ton of options off the tee on this one.
15 - par 5 with a daunting straight uphill tee shot, but pull it off and you have a downhill approach to the green
16 - signature par 3 over the water/marsh. Beautiful hole. (hit 7i)
17 - quirky tree guarding the right side of the green. I'm sure folks hate that tree, but it made it very memorable for me.
18 - Forced carry, dogleg right... water left, OB right (range). Beautiful green right in front of the clubhouse.

It had almost everything I could want in 9 holes. The only thing I would change is making 16 more of a traditional short par 3, but I'm being nitpicky and you get the short par 3 on 6 anyways. It's literally one of the best public 9 holes I've played.
Par 3 distances:
160 (8i)
125 (50º)
222 (5i)
193 (6i)
Favorite hole might be 10... just a fantastic tee shot. Love a wide open tee shot after the turn to keep the confidence. The bunkering around the green was beautiful as well.
Conditions
The conditions were also a tale of two 9s.
The front had some terrible tee boxes. Shockingly bad at times. I will say that the blue tees had less issues, but from the gold/blacks there were quite a few holes where the tee boxes were the biggest challenge of the entire hole. LUCKILY, a tee box renovation is happening in the next couple months. So those issues will be sorted.
On the back, the tee boxes were fantastic. Zero complaints. Was obvious a few of the tee boxes had been recently renovated and they were great.
The fairways were solid throughout.
The bunkers were very good. They were solid on the front, no complaints. But a few holes on the back had really impressive bunkering. Like 10 as en example. If you put me in that bunker I would think I was at a high end private course.
When I went the greens had just been top-dressed (thin layer of sand), so they were hard to judge. Since then I've spoken to a few people who have recently played and got their feedback. In general, they are solid throughout and roll true. 10-13 greens are a little patchy, but that's the worst of it.
Misc.
Pace was pretty good for us until halfway through the back when some beginners didn't understand what playing through meant. A little frustrating but eventually someone from the clubhouse rode up and took care of the situation which was very appreciated. GPS on the carts allows the clubhouse to track pace and step in if an issue persists. I've heard that the pace is usually pretty good.
Staff are SUPER nice and very accommodating.
I will say there isn't a lot "extra frill". There aren't tees or towels in the cart. Range balls aren't included in the tee time. But my understanding is that they are wanting to keep those things for their members to elevate their experience compared to the regular public golfer.
Speaking of which, you can find their Membership Options Here
Membership starts at $199/mo and go up to $378/mo for individuals.
Family and corporate plans are available.
Value
The $45 weekday afternoon rate is a fantastic value. 8/10.
That said, the weekend AM rate of $90 is too steep for the overall experience in its current state. Obviously you're paying for the most in-demand tee time, which is why it's high, but objectively, $75 is probably the most I would want to spend at the moment. The good news is that by 1pm the price drops back down to $60.
Once the front tee boxes are renovated and the practice facility is upgraded, I could see $90 not being totally out of the question. But at that price I would still want a warm up bucket and at least some tees in the cart.
I recommend playing Country Club of Gwinnett, but try to avoid the $90 top rate if you can until the renovations have been completed.
