Whatever assumptions you might make about a course called Country Land are probably close to reality. Super laid back, thick accents, rough around the edges, and not a lot of amenities. However, for the price, it's got some great mountain views and a couple memorable holes (mixed-in with a few design disasters).

Clubhouse is pretty simple, but it does have a bar serving local craft brews and breakfast/lunch options. The outside seating is nice as it overlooks the course from the 2nd deck.

There isn't a range (bummer), but there is a putting green and a small chipping area. Great views, but perhaps warm up down the road at Hampton Golf Village if you need to.

The conditions weren't bad. I was usually hitting off of grass and putting on relatively healthy (albeit slow) greens. There aren't many bunkers, but few I saw had plenty of sand.

I think the love/hate relationship that many locals have with the course has to do with the layout and overall terrain. You can hit the best shot of your life, dead center of the fairway, and still end up with weird/bad lie.

I actually like a little bit of quirk in a golf course, but many of the holes went beyond quirky.

There are holes that are oddly short - like the 68 yard par 3, hole 12. Or absurdly hard like the 460 yard, uphill par 4, hole 4. Hole 14 has one of the harder tee shots I've seen where you're splitting the needle... but hit your drive too good and you've got a downhill lie in some thick rough. Even hole 1 is just weird. Not really sure where to aim or what club to hit off the tee or where the landing area actually is.

There are some beautiful holes though. The downhill par 3, hole 10 is great start to the back 9. I also really enjoyed the par 5, hole 17. The green on 18 is great way to end the round...looking out over the mountains.

When I'm paying less than $50 for 18 holes, I pretty much just need some grass to hit from and relatively healthy greens to putt on. I would say I got that at Country Land, but not much more. I'd try to avoid paying the full $55 weekend rate. There's usually HotDeals for $45 on weekends and even as low as $33 on weekdays.

If you're within 30 minutes and want a laid back round with some scenic views, I'd say go for it, but perhaps don't worry about keeping score or play a scramble. I don't think it's a course for serious golf - and thats ok! Not every course has to be.
