Mirror Lake is another example of Bobby Jones Links working their magic. After taking over in Dec 2023, they have made plenty of improvements to the club and course, but most importantly they made Mirror Lake semi-private so all of us can enjoy.
The layout is very good, but I wouldn't say it's great. There's definitely a lull around 13 that continues until 16, but 17 and 18 really bring it home strong. I was somewhat disappointed that only 5 holes really incorporated the lake and the first not being until hole 7. I also thought the par 3s were just ok - # 5 was probably my favorite. The bunkering creates a very visually beautiful but intimidating tee shot.
Course conditions were awesome. Every tee box was well manicured, fairways were very healthy, and the greens were pristine - very consistent and quick enough to force respect, but never felt unfair. Also, the bunkers were perfect - loved the style of the bunkering, how they were used, quality of the sand...everything. I found myself in quite a few so I can tell you first hand. #4 and #5 in particular stand out mainly due to the bunkering.
Make sure you pay attention to where the best miss is off the tee. Most holes had one side that was much less penalizing. So take your time analyzing each hole and avoid the big numbers.
I was thoroughly impressed with the amenities. Very nice club house. Grass range with unlimited complimentary range balls (I went back after the round), chipping/bunker practice, and 2 putting greens. We saw the cart person a few times and they were fully stocked. They also had tee's in every cart and a ball/club cleaner on the carts as well. I always appreciate attention to detail when I'm spending a little extra.
I paid $60 (early am price) and was extremely pleased with the value vs. cost. At the high end of $85. I'd still say it's worth it - though not an amazing value. I'm not sure what the walking price is, but the course is very walkable. Next time I'll probably do that.
I would definitely recommend Mirror Lake Golf Club - Lake Course.
