Is The Frog back?!

Once upon a time The Frog was the PREMIER public golf option in the ATL area. Unfortunately, it suffered under years of mismanagement. In May 2024, Bobby Jones Links Management took over and have been on a mission to bring it back. While it's not quite there yet, the strides over the past year are immediately noticeable and should get ATL Golfers excited about the future.

Very classy clubhouse

Clubhouse is solid. Stocked pro-shop, and the restaurant bar is really nice (Tropicalia on tap 🙌)

As most know, the layout is a blast and was pretty much the only thing keeping people coming back. It has a little bit of everything: short and mid length par 3s, uphill and downhill, doglegs, and just enough water hazards to keep it interesting.

Conditions aren't perfect yet, but they are night and day from a few years ago. The bunkers are a signature feature of the course and they had gotten so bad. It was such a beautiful site seeing those bunkers return to their former glory. That said, there are still a few fairway bunkers they are still working on and one section they are turning into a waste area.

The rest of the course was in very good condition overall. Unfortunately, the bent grass greens do suffer a bit from people not fixing their pitch marks, which is frustrating for everybody. There are also a few tee boxes struggling due to the lack of sunlight, but I've been told those are getting worked on too.

The amenities/hospitality were fine. Grass range which is always a huge plus. Apparently there's a chipping area down behind the clubhouse, but I had no idea until recently, so I can't speak to it. All of the people are super nice, but there's a few touches such as tees in the carts and a small bag of complimentary range balls that would be expected if you're paying the high end of the pricing. I actually spoke to the GM about this and the explanation was that they have prioritized the course revitalization first, and will apply more resources towards hospitality soon. Based on how Bobby Jones Links runs nearby Mirror Lake, I tend to believe him.

Do I recommend it for the price? Well, that depends on the price! The dynamic pricing gives you a lot of options. I would say $75 is the line. I don't think the overall experience is worth much more than that right now. Anything below that and it's a good value. Lock in a weekday 2pm round for $32 and you've got the best bang for your buck in all of Atlanta!

So if you haven't been back to the Frog in a couple years, give it another try. You'll love the Fazio design and be very encouraged by the progress they're making.

Disclaimer: The Frog invited me to play the course for free. This was very appreciated, but I was very clear that my review would be objective. That said, I felt it was important to let ya'll know.
