Mirror Lake Golf Club - Mountain Course

Semi-Private

$55-$85

40mins West of Atlanta

Mirror Lake - Mountain Course is the sister course to the Lake Course. The main differences I noticed were a more interesting/scenic layout, but slightly worse course conditions.

Since my Lake Course review, Mirror Lake has started charging for range balls 😩, but luckily it's only $8 and unlimited so still a great value. I'd take $8 for unlimited than a free "warm up" bag any day. The practice facilities are great. Grass range, pitching range, chipping green, huge putting green on the water, and I'm pretty sure there is a fairway bunker next to the range to practice out of. Don't think I've seen that before. Unfortunately, the greenside practice bunker has completely grown over. Guessing that's on purpose though and not from neglect.

One thing I will always give Mirror Lake their flowers for are the tees and towels in the cart + club cleaner. It's a small touch, but it definitely gives you that "member for a day" feeling when you're out there.

The layout was definitely a lot more interesting/quirky than Lake. Blind tee shot on 4, tucked green on 10, the winding 14, the left turn on 16, and the brutal 18 finisher. You'll notice that 4 of those highlights were on the back. The back 9 was definitely more interesting. The par 3s on the front were pretty bland, flat, mid-iron par 3s - whereas on the back both featured a downhill elevation drop with hazards short of the green. Many of the par 4s started with an elevated tee box, but the hole would then play uphill to the green. Definitely a challenge.

Course conditions were good, but not as good as Lake was over the summer. In particular, I thought the tee boxes were often un-even, but still plenty of grass and were cut short. Fairways were great, and the greens were very good as well - healthy and a very comfortable/consistent speed. The bunkers were inconsistent. I love the use of bunkers at both Mirror Lake courses, but there were quite a few on the Mountain side that were in bad shape. In particular, the massive bunker on 13 and the bunker on 16 behind the green. There was also some inconsistency in how they looked. Most had pristine white sand, while others had a reddish tint. I can't say for certain, but I would assume they play slightly different too, if indeed it is different sand.

Taking into account the overall experience, $85 is right at the tipping point of value for cost. Tack on $8 range balls and I think you're on the wrong side of that line. Luckily, that cost is limited to weekend tee times before noon. I think anything below $85 and you're coming out ahead. The weekday afternoon fee of $55 is a really good value.

I would recommend playing Mirror Lake - Mountain Course.
