Straight up... I love Atlanta National, but I know it's not for everyone. This Pete and P.B. Dye design is short, quirky, features blind tee shots, and plenty of trouble, but it's a blast. It's impossible to play just once because after almost every hole you'll be thinking about how you'd play it differently next time.

The club is part of Invited Clubs, who recently invested a ton into renovating the clubhouse: restaurant update, golf simulator lounge, fitness center, and more. At a $25k initiation fee, it's a great mid-tier club option for those in the market.
(however I've also heard that fee was going to double or may have already - if someone can confirm)
Inside Scoop: There are rumors that the owner of GC of GA and Horseshoe Bend are lining up a purchase of the club, but nothing has been agreed to. Definitely something to watch though.
Practice facilities are pretty good overall. Grass range - albeit not a ton of room. Decent sized putting area as well. There's also another chipping/pitching/bunker practice area on the far end of the driving range. Inconvenient, but it looked nice (I wasn't able to utilize it).
The aesthetics of the course really stand out. Tall grass, rocks, waste area, creeks, bunkering, etc. Not only does it look great, it also makes the holes even more memorable.
Conditions were very good. The greens are bent grass which tend to suffer in the Atlanta heat, even so, they were in pretty good shape. That said, a few greens were a little rough around the edges and I did expect them to be faster. Tee boxes and fairways were solid as expected. Bunkers were clean cut with plenty of sand. My main critique would be the waste areas because they tended to have small rocks in them that can ding your clubs.
Inside scoop: The superintendent has put in a $6 million renovation budget to redo the greens, update irrigation, and some of the fairways!
The first 3 holes are perfect: Short par 4, short par 3, gettable par 5. Really allows you to kick start your round. Hole 4 is when things start to get a little trickier. On 4, 5, 7, and 8, you might use 4 different clubs off the tee . Then 9 features a waste bunker running right down the middle of fairway. (Sidenote: The 9s should be flipped so hole 9 can be the finisher. Beautiful hole.) The back 9 is much of the same: 10, 11, 14, and 16 don't require driver. And I can't NOT mention the island green of 17. Stunning hole.
Additionally, many members appreciate how extremely walkable the course is. It seems most like to walk the course. Always a plus in my book.
At a $150 guest rate, I think Atlanta National is definitely worth it. I wouldn't pay much more though. While the course conditions were very good, they aren't at the level of some of the top tier clubs such as Dunwoody. Perhaps after the renovation project that will change.
If you can get an invite or play in a tournament, jump at the opportunity. If you lean into the quirk and double check your plan off the tee, I think you'll have a blast.
