This isn't necessarily what I believe to be the Top 5 Best Public Courses in Metro-Atlanta because I didn't play every course in 2025. Notable courses missing from this top 5 are Echelon and Lanier Legacy, two courses that many would probably have in their Top 5. In 2026 I actually will have reviewed every public course at which point I will do a true Top 5 or even Top 10.

Here is the full list of public courses I reviewed in 2025...

Some of the best conditions for the price point that I played all year. Add in the amenities + hospitality touches and you have yourself a first class golf day at an affordable rate. The main thing keeping it down are the par 3s (just ok), and the lull from 13-16. Many folks prefer the Mountain Course over Lake, but this year Lake takes the cake for me.

One of the most interesting layouts in all of Atlanta and arguably one of the best collections of Par 3s in Atlanta Public Golf - 3/4 downhill and the signature 12 is beautiful with the stonework. Really fun par 5s and a great finishing hole as well. Conditions were really good - some of the fastest greens I played, but a little rough around the edges of the course - which keeps it at 4. (Also a course on the ATL Golfs Pass!)

BBA has arguably the best collection of par 4s in Atlanta, and the par 3s are also fantastic. Add in some of the best course conditions at a public course, and you have all the makings for a top tier golf experience. Unfortunately, they fall short in the hospitality department, and the par 5s are just ok, which keeps them at 3.

The most fun I had at a golf course in 2025 was at The Chimneys. Elevated tee shots galore, drivable par 4s, downhill par 3s, and an amazing finishing hole. Conditions were amazing. The tee boxes were some of the best I've ever played at a public course - the stonework was beautiful. That said, the clubhouse is very limited in their offerings (no food options at all) and their practice area was just ok.

Super fun layout with impeccable conditions, awesome practice facility with all of the features, and a beautifully renovated clubhouse with a full bar and kitchen. What more could you ask for? Can't wait to get back there in 2026, and when I do, I can use the ATL Golfs Pass and save 20%! It's one of the more expensive tee times, so I was pumped to land Chestatee on the Pass!
